Golf is one of the fastest growing sports in Special Olympics, literally taking off since the late 1990′s. According to the Special Olympics website, there are over 8,000 Special Olympics athletes competing in golf each year. As the number of athletes involved in golf continues to rise nationally, so too does it locally. Our Howard County Golfers obtain the basic golf skills through Level 1 by obtaining consistent scores demonstrating the ability to utilize the clubs for various shots. Once our athletes have demonstrated the basic skills, we partner them up with a non-disabled peer that will be their playing partner in Level 2 team Play. As our athletes skills grow in the game, they can move up to Levels 3, 4 or 5. Howard County yields a large contingent of golfers each fall, most of which participate in Levels 2 through 5
Special Olympics Howard County provides two levels of golf training each fall — Levels 2-5 and Skills.
