Coordinators: Marianne Otto-Smith (mottosmith@verizon.net) and Susan Buningh (sohcequestrian@hotmail.com)

The Equestrian Program offers Special Olympics athletes the experience of horseback riding as sport. Athletes must already participate in therapeutic riding with a certified instructor.  At present, we are unable to offer a beginner or skills program.

Training Locations and Times:
Therapeutic & Recreational Riding Center (TRRC), Glenwood, MD
LeCheval Stable, Glenwood, MD

The equestrian program runs weekly mid-March through June 1st.  Athletes are evaluated by their certified riding instructors, who are also Special Olympics certified coaches, and placed in group lessons by skill level and horse availability. Training times vary accordingly.

For athletes who practice at TRRC on Saturdays, there is no Special Olympics practice on March 23rd, April 20th (Inspiration Walk), and May 25th.
For those who practice at TRRC on Wednesdays, there is no Special Olympics practice on March 27th, April 24th, and May 27th.  TRRC is open on those days, however, and athletes may still take their regularly scheduled lessons.

For those who ride at LeCheval Stable, please follow the LeCheval schedule.

Competition:The equestrian competition will be held on June 1st at the Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, MD.  Keep posted for information about the location and time of the end-of-season team party.
